Opportunities for Electronic Commerce in Agent-Based Information Discovery

This article investigates the connection between Electronic Commerce (EC) and Information Discovery (ID). ID is the synthesis of distributed Information Retrieval and Information Filtering, lled in with intelligent agents and information brokers. Currently, no link exists between EC and ID. We argue that this link consists of a cost model for ID. We therefore propose several (types of) cost models, which enable application of EC to the whole of ID. This is illustrated with examples.
